Sažetak
One forms of tourism offer that has been present in the world for a long period of time is related to sports activities and recreational diving. Diving tourism has a direct impact on improving the quality of the overall tourist offer, because it is directed towards particular customers, often the ones with higher purchasing power. Diving tourism as a specific type of tourism can have an impact on the extension of the tourist season. Since it is takes place almost throughout the whole year, diving tourism can affect overcoming the strong seasonality of the Croatian tourism. Researches indicate that due to the climatic conditions, diving tourism in Croatia is becoming more and more popular. Global trends indicate that this type of tourism is a rapidly growing industry that generates significant revenues and that is why states at the seaside try to make the most of its potential, creating additional preconditions for this. In Croatia, thoughts about such possibilities are in the initial stage, despite significant natural and human resources. The authors in this work research the level of development of diving tourism, with an emphasis on Croatia. The possibility of scuttling, that is the deliberate sinking of ships for tourism, sport and recreational purposes, is being explored, that would be a special underwater attraction for amateur and professional divers. An overview of the scuttling project in the Primorsko-Goranska County is given, where sites were recognized as very desirable destination for the development of diving tourism. Besides economic impacts, such undersea oases become a significant aspect of the protection of the underwater world.
