Sažetak
The starting point of the paper is the thesis on the strong political role of the intellectual elite, especially in the countries where cultural nationalism prevailed (J. Hutchinson, A.D. Smith). The paper focused on the Interwar period in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes / Yugoslavia, in which the intellectuals’ political role became increasingly important, but it was followed by the growing state pressure. Examining the Croatian example, the paper presents wide range of their attitudes, from obedience to resistance. It focuses on the different forms of resistance, as they proved to be characteristic for the majority. The previous research on non-violent struggle (J.S. Scott, G. Sharp) helped to recognize: a) different forms of individual resistance (boycott, non-approvement, creating national style) and b) the only organized form trough the civic cultural associations.
