Sažetak
The purpose of the paper is to understand the significance of the concept of time chain and ex-plore its implications on the use of management technologies in managing a firm in a complex environment. In this paper the authors familiarize the readers with important ideas and research that have contributed to the development of the concept of time chain. In doing so, the authors display an overview of the most important terms needed to subsequently incorporate time chain in contemporary business management models. The research will be made by reviewing theoret-ical foundations of the field of systems theory and strategic management. Long term subsistence of a firm is being presented through the time chain, which connects the past, the present and the future ; this process is the responsibility and relies primarily on cognitive competences of manag- ers. The problem lies in harmonizing the complexity of the firm with the complexity of the envi-ronment. The paper concludes with the notion that different time chains demand different, yet also highly specific management technologies in order to cope with the growing complexity of the environment of the firm. In other words, different ways of overcoming growing complexity manifest as different time chains.
