Sažetak
Differences in concentrations of bioelements may play a role in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. Previous studies have confirmed there are differences betvveen the concentration of bioelements but they have been done by insufficiently sensitive analytical procedures, and with no data on a larger number of bioelements inthe same sample ofbiological matrices. This may probably be one of the causes for often contradictory results. In this cross- sectional study we compare the concentration of 43 bioelements simultaneously in each sample of hair using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry with a new method of analysis, among 40 people with schizophrenia and the control group without psychiatric diagnosis, matched with the experimental group by age, sex and place of residence. Data about demographic, social, nutritive and clinical parameters will be gathered with the help of a questionnaire. Possible findings on different concentrations and main concentration components of BE would contribute to the better understanding of the pathogenesis of schizophrenia.
