Sažetak
Container revolution has resulted in changes in international trade and is one of the most important contributions to the globalization of the world economy. The cargo containers made it possible to realize the concept of multimodality, and interconnection of different modes of transportation, and freight transportation thus takes place in the system of „door to door“. The principle of such a system requires the removal and avoidance of bottlenecks and unhindered and continuous flow of cargo through the port system. The hub and spoke model is a system which makes transportation much efficient by greatly simplifying a network of routes. Such a system is one of the terminals selected as the central (hub) through which pass all the transports, which is done loading/unloading, sorting, stacking and goods transport Shipping lines in the destination port (spoke port). The hub concept has often been introduced in various terms in accordance with functionality, such as logistics centre, logistics zone, freight terminal, distribution centre, and warehouse. The aim of this study is o describe the development of container transport and containerized, define the hub and spoke system, highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the system, explain the perspective of a logistics hub and show how logistics hubs applicable to the container port based on economic theory and analysis of social networks.
