Sažetak
Mortar joints are the weakest elements of masonry construction where plastic deformations take place. In numerical simulations and calculations of masonry structures, mortar joints are mostly modelled as interface elements characterized by different parameters. One of the most important variables represents frictional sliding. Determination of initial shear strength of masonry is the standard procedure according to EN-1052-3:2002. The cohesion and the internal friction angle are usually derived by linear regression. Peak shear strength can also be evaluated in this manner. However, residual shear strength gets activated during earthquake response oscillations. In order to explore this problem, laboratory tests on unreinforced masonry triplet specimens were carried out. This paper presents the obtained results and provides some recommendations for assessing the residual friction.
