Sažetak
The aim of this study was it examined the bones, bone fragments and teeth from two archaezoological medieval sites. Materials and methods The material originates from two medieval sites: the vilage near Bjelovar (totally 285 specimens) and wooden bridge pilots from City Park in Virovitica (totally 139 specimens). Bones and bone fragmets were deteriminated, while the osteometric analysis included fully preserved cattle metapodial bones whereby the sex was classified. Results At the first archaezoological site (the vilage near Bjelovar) the bone remains and teeth of cattle and pigs were represented equally. At Virovitica site the cattle remains are the most represented. The bone fragments of domestic poultry, primarily fowl, are presented at the both sites. The findings of wild animal (wild boar, roebuck, rabbit, wolf, fox) bone remains refer to hunting, primarily for meat, but probably for fur too. The withers height was estimated: for cows it is 106.25 cm and for bulls 119.70 cm. Conclusion Our results shows that medieval people were used domestic (cattle, pigs and domestic poultry) and wild animals (wild boar, roebuck, rabbit) in its nutrition, and practiced hunting.
