Sažetak
Wearable technology has the potential to speed up communication and allow greater freedom of mobility for users. This paper proposes the use of rich capabilities from a smartwatch to provide assistive technology for users with disabilities. Namely, we present the model of symbol-based mobile application for smartwatch as well as the PictureCaller, a case study application which serves as an accessible phone book for a smartwatch. The purpose of this application is to facilitate the use of smartwatch calling capabilities for users with visual impairments and/or Alternative and Augmentative Communication symbol users. The application aids users by leveraging rich smartwatch features including pictures, sounds, vibration as well as text. Usability testing of the application, done with a person with visual impairments, proved the applicability of a smartwatch in assistive technology applications.
