Sažetak
The chapter analyses brownfileds, grayfields, voids and vacant spaces and possibilities of creating new urban quarters from underutilised industrial and infrastructural sites on the examples from Vienna (Austria) and Zagreb (Croatia). There is a need for comprehensive registry of underutilised spaces in order to identify potentional development areas at the neighborhood, district and city scale. The comparision of individual cases serves as a starting point to argue for a more systemated and comprehensive analysis of current redevelopment and conversion practices. With the help of a registry that includes the size, age, and function before and after, ownership and legal situation, as well as environmental information, more valid data can be generated for comaprision with political strategies and redevelopment practices.
