Sažetak
This paper examines the potential contribution of social innovations to strengthening social cohesion and mitigating the effects of the crisis. Social innovations are social in goals and the means - new ideas (products, services and models) that simultaneously meet social needs (more efficient than alternatives) and create new social relationships or cooperation’s. We found that most of the studied innovations were in the field of services, although innovations were recognized in innovative instruments of regulation and social rights, the new forms of governance and new modes of work and funding of organizations. In the Croatian context, we distinguish between three types of social innovations: (1) innovations occurring in the public sector, (2) innovations that come from abroad, and (3) innovation coming from civil society. Case studies showed how the life cycles of social innovations are very contextual. Most social innovations remain local and limited duration. The more successful ones are those integrated into the administration of local social systems or even initiated by the local authorities. Most successful social innovations are built on the optimal timing and capitalized multiple paths of social, economic and political transformation that is already in progress in society.
