Sažetak
Phosphorus is very important nutrient for the eastern Adriatic Sea owing to its limiting role in the primary production. Due to extremely low orthophosphate concentrations in the water column, (median HPO42- value: 0.039 mmol m-3), and to relatively small number of freshwater inflows, sediment represents an important source of dissolved phosphorus for the Adriatic area. In this paper we will present the organic and inorganic phosphorus concentrations in sediments collected during 2005- 2011 period at military harbors, nautical marinas, fish farms, bays, estuaries and open sea areas to evaluate the trophic state influence on the phosphorus distribution in sediments. Beside the organic phosphorus, at selected sites, inorganic phosphorus forms were examined (phosphorus in biogenic, authigenic and detrital apatite, phosphorus bound to iron oxides and hydroxides) as well as their relation with sediment redox potential, granulometric content, organic matter and carbonate content. Additionally, association between various phosphorus forms and physical, chemical and biological parameters in the bottom layer of the water column (orthophosphate, oxygen and chlorophyll a concentration, bacterial abundance and plankton assemblage) will also be investigated.
