Sažetak
Mine explosives remaining from the recent war have multiple negative effects (humanitarian, economic, psychological) on the community. Croatia is among the eight most mine-contaminated and endangered countries in the world. Yat, without clearing of the contaminated areas no economic recovery and return of exiled population to their homes will be possible. Psychological determinants, especially the stressful nature of the job, call for psychologists' engagement in this critical task. Psychological selection and clasification, psychological preparation and training of mine- clearing teams, as well as guidance on how to safely and cost-effectively organize and conduct mine-clearing tasks are valuable for upgrading of safety and working conditions.
