Sažetak
The assemblage of brachionid rotifers from diverse freshwater bodies (3 natural lakes and 9 reservoirs) in Macedonia were analyzed to reveal their relationship to habitat and biotic and abiotic factors. 23 brachionid species were identified and is to highlight most diverse genus Brachionus (12 species) among other genera i.e. Keratella, with dominant and ubiquitous species Keratella cochlearis, Notholca, Kellicottia, Platyias, Plationus and Anuraeopsis. Results of analyses indicated higher diversity of brachionid rotifers in natural lakes than in reservoirs indicating on higher variety of habitats, obviously connected with vegetated littoral zone which is usually absent in artificial lakes. In the natural, shallow and eutrophic Dojran Lake the highest diversity and abundance of Brachionus complex species is positively affected by determinants of higher trophic level i.e. phytoplankton biomass and total phosphorous. In the oldest and deepest European tectonic Ohrid Lake prevailed species from other brachionid genera indicating on less eutrophication impact. In reservoirs was obtained scarcity of brachionid diversity, up to four species which developed abundant populations. The results of this study suggests brachionid rotifers assemblage in different water bodies are strongly sentinel organisms indicate on anthtopogenic impacted environmental deterioration.
