Sažetak
Artificial radioactivity in the Northern Adriatic Sea was assessed trough the concentration of Cs-137 in seawater, sediment and marine organisms from 2006 to 2010. The dominant sources of anthropogenic radionuclides in Adriatic Sea are global fallout and the Po river. The concentrations of Cs-137 in seawater were back to the pre-Chernobyl value. In front of the river Po delta the concentrations of Cs-137 in sediment were slightly higher than in the sediment of Rovinj coast. The concentrations of Cs-137 were detectable at very low levels in Mytilus galloprovincialis, Mugil cephalus and Sardina pilchardus. In Fucus virsoides and Mullus barbatus the concentrations of Cs-137 were slightly higher which may be used as bioindicators of environmental radiocontamination. The radioecological status of Cs-137 in the Adriatic Sea has returned to the pre-accident level, taking into consideration its natural fluctuations due to physico-chemical and hydrological processes in the investigated area.
