Sažetak
Summary In 1972 the investigations of the prevalence of chronic diseases was carried out in 1575 male and 1690 female subjects aged between 38 and 57 years, who represented a sample of the population from six communities in Croatia. According to occupation the subjects were divided into seven groups: farmers, unskilled workers, housewives, skilled workers, administrative workers and technicians, intellectuals and retired persons. Chronic diseases and impairments were classified in 75 diagnoses and 7 degrees of clinical severity of a disease. The data were processed by means of an electronic computer. The group of agricultural workers and housewives had the highest number of diseases per subject. A lower number of diseases per subject was found in the groups of unskilled and skilled workers and then in administrative and technical workers. The lowest number was found in the intellectual workers. More detailed data on the average rate of disease are given in tables, while the data on the prevalence of diseases by occupation for 35 diseases in both males and females are shown separately. The significance of occupation and socio-economic status of particular groups of working population in the prevalence of chronic diseases and impairments is discused, which is important for an active work in primary health protection.
