Sažetak
The problem of statistical optimum and suboptimum passive sonar structures for the extremely weak and sophisticated underwater signal is considered. The optimum structure is synthesized using the likelihood ratio statistical test and the Neyman-Pearson criterion. To evaluate the optimum and sub optimum structures performances the receiver operating characteristics diagrams are investigated. The result of this comparison show that the optimum structure is superior for the detection of the extremely weak and sophisticated underwater signal being generated by so-called silent vessels with negligible cavitation compared to the noise effect of the operating machinery, mechanisms and propeller.
