Sažetak
Although the neural stimulation studies moved into the area of complex neural structures, single axon is still a primary target for excitability studies when it comes to isolating the effect of stimulus parameters, or to verify an excitation model, such as SENN [1]. Generally, the stimulation response of a nerve is connected to both temporal and frequency parameters of the stimulus, thus the effects of stimulus waveform on nerve excitability should be carefully studied, especially in the Intermediate Frequency (IF) range. The associated setup should isolate the effects of certain features in a waveform, and avoid masking of the nerve excitability by the stochastic variations and associated uncertainties of the nerve bundle or more complex neural structures. Additionally, the influence of the propagation of stimulus through the tissue should be kept to the minimum. This directs such study to a convenient single axon setup based on the simple nervous system of Lumbricus terrestris.
