Sažetak
The choice between remediation technologies for the treatment of contaminated soil depends mostly on the remediation objectives or the desired, and acceptable, level of contamination after the remediation process. The above shows that the cost of remediation is closely related and, more so, depends on the future land use on the contaminated area. The above leads to the following criteria to be applied in the selection of remediation methods: future land use on the remediated site ; cost of remediation ; agreement by the state and local communities ; protection of human health and the environment ; long-term benefits and effects on the local community ; reduction of toxicity, mobility and the amount of contamination by means of the applied technology ; obligation to monitor the remediation of contaminated sites ; preparation of studies on the quality of the restoration process. Future challenges in the development of contaminated soil remediation technologies are: - development of in situ remediation technologies, that are inexpensive, effective and fast, - development of integrated physical, chemical and biological processes of remediation, - an increase in natural processes, that is, soil auto-remediation - developing genetically modified microorganisms and plants for detoxification of contaminated soil 14 The most effective, least painful and least expensive soil remediation technology is prevention. Unfortunately, there are many papers and lectures on this subject, but no one is respectful of this technology. We hope that in the future this remediation technology will be respected.
