Sažetak
The aim of the research was to determine the basic cycling factors for the Zagreb cyclists, and to determine the proneness to cycling on the basis of important factors of cycling in Zagreb. Over 3000 frequent cyclists in the city traffic are surveyed by specially designed questionnaire. The results showed that the participants used bicycle very frequently, but on short distances. The biggest barriers to cycling are insecurity caused by motor vehicle traffic and nonexistent or unlinked bicycle paths. Participants estimated that existing conditions in Zagreb as highly unfavorable to cycling, while better quality bicycle paths/lanes and other infrastructure would encourage more individuals to use them. The regression analyses show that the frequency of cycling could be predicted with: purposes and barriers of cycling, traffic accidents while cycling and the activities in promoting cycling. The results provide guidance to improve the conditions for safer and more frequent cycling in Zagreb.
