Sažetak
Our observation on 20 cases of ulcerative colitis and 20 cases of bacillary dysentery have made it evident that bhere are significant differences in the microscopic apperance of the bowel exudate in ulcerative colitis and bacilary dysentery. The difference manifests itself by the increased number of eosinophils in ulcerative colitis. This phenomenon together with other well known facts suggests an allergic origin of the disease. Microscopic examination of the bowel exudate in patients presenting symptoms and signs of dysentery may be of practical importance in tracing early cases of ulcerative colitis. The method had the advantages of being very simple, giving the results in a short time, and bearing no inconvenience to the patient.
