Sažetak
The offset printing plates are most often made of aluminium foils that are mechanically, chemically and electrochemically processed to enable good adsorption of the fountain solution in the printing process and coated with a photosensitive layer. The photosensitive layer is oleophilic and will adsorb printing ink in the printing process. The common plate making procedure consists of two processing steps. In the first step the plate is imaged by the use of a certain electromagnetic (EM) irradiation in a platesetter. The second step i to chemically process imaged printing plate (the developing process). In the developing some parts of the photosensitive coating are removed in order to form the nonprinting areas (the processesd aluminium base). The imaging of the plate is performed in an automotive imaging unit, so the chemical processing of the plate is considered as the source of the inconsistency in the plate making. Due to that fact and the raising impact of the ecologically friendlier behaviour in the industry, in recent years processless printing plates were developed. Although these plates should completely eliminate the developing of the plates from the plate making procedure, the development is moved into the printing press. One of the problems which occur in the workflow with processless printing plates is inability to control the plate making procedure due to the fact that the plate is finished in the printing press. The aim of this paper is to control the stability of the in-press development process. For that purpose two sets of offset printing plates were made and developed in the printing press. After the printing process, measurement of the coverage values on the plates was conducted using Techkon Spectro Plate platereader. The results showed that the machine development of the plate gives stable results in the whole coverage values spectra. It could be concluded that machine development is stable and could not be seen as a barrier to include processless plates in the graphic reproduction workflow.
