Sažetak
This study has examined the effect of the rinsing agent with a higher pH value in the first stages of rinsing of the magnesium hydroxide precipitate obtained by substoichiometric 80% precipitation from seawater on the mass percent of CaO and B2O3 in calcined magnesium oxide. Dolomite lime was used as the settling agent in precipitation of magnesium hydroxide from seawater. The purpose of this study has been to determine a more efficient sequence of applying the rinsing agent with a higher pH in rinsing of the magnesium hydroxide precipitate, both in decantation and on filter paper. The results obtained show that it is more efficient to use the combined method of rinsing both in decanting and on filter paper when applying the rinsing agent with a higher pH. In the combined method of rinsing on filter paper, two rinses with alkalized distilled water with pH of 15.50 suffice, followed by rinsing with fresh distilled water, for the CaO content in samples examined to be significantly lower. Examinations also indicate that the combined method of rinsing, (3+2) in decantation and (2+3) on filter paper, significantly contributes to the reduction of the B2O3 and CaO content in calcined magnesium oxide.
