Sažetak
A mecmua which belonged to a certain Salih Mufti-zade from the Bosnian town of Travnik is discussed as a source for a research into the compiler’s biography and his intellectual life. The manuscript is kept at the Oriental Collection of the Archives of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The first entries in it date from the year 1170/1756-57 when Salih was a student of the Sufi Ismail Effendi al-Kunyavi Medrese in Istanbul. He continued to fill his mecmua with excerpts from texts, fetvas and personal records until 1794. The diversity of entries written down in the long period of almost four decades enables an insight into the reading and writing habits and intellectual preferences of the compiler from the time when he was a medrese student throughout the long period while he was a muderris and a mufti in Travnik. The sources for the research into the biographies of less prominent and (almost) forgotten members of the ulema, particularly the introductory parts of scholarly works know as sebeb-i te’lif , are also discussed in the paper.
