Sažetak
In the Republic of Croatia, already in the early 90s, after the first free, democratic and multi-party elections were held (that caused removal of communists from the Government) the need to strengthen education process for national security system that was immediately after the election made apolitical. Nevertheless, it took more years (1998), until the start of specialized educational institutions, the Intelligence Academy of National Security Office, became reality. After the fall of the "Iron Curtain", security paradigm began to change rapidly. Aims and tasks of the national security system have become much more complex since the character of the new threats lost former classical characteristics of a military threat to the territorial integrity and sovereignty. A key task of the intelligence and security system appeared to be the need for, and ability of, knowledge management, as well as verification of existing and creation of new knowledge in accordance with the new democratic system. It was supposed to be realized in significantly altered the socio-political context where the definition of threat of national security had to go through a democratic procedure of a pluralistic society. Intelligence Academy was part of the national security system ; it was its fundamental intellectual integration components. Unfortunately, after the elections in 2000 when new, leftist, Government took office, Intelligence Academy ceased to exist without the expert discussion. To date, the system of national security has not established similar institution. The process of education in intelligence and security agencies is again recognized as one of its most important components. Among other things, it is because of the Croatian membership in the EU and NATO. Currently, there are no significant intentions for an establishment of an institution like the former Intelligence Academy was.
