Ivana Brlić Mažuranić, Jaša Dalmatin, Slavenophilic ideologemes, exotic images
Sažetak
In this paper the imagery of Ivana Brlić Mažuranić's historical novel "Jasha Dalmatian viceroy of Gujarat" (1937) will be highlighted. Instead of evoking exotic images, space and time of the radical Otherness for the most part becomes a scenario of (re)creating Slavenohilic ideologemes, which have traditionally been a vital part of the Croatian political discourse dominated by the learned male elite. Hence, these ideologemes and imagemes have been mediated into Brlić Mažuranić's novel mostly through literary, historical and political authority of her male ancestors. Thus the history in her novel becomes the "home ground", while the unconquerable present is in fact the true "foreign country".
