Sažetak
In the middle Croatia we examined the effect of crop rotation type on soil chemical parameters in order to propose the strategies for the preservation of soil quality in the Mediterranean region. The sixteen soils from three locations (Jasen, Tinj and Jankolovica) were cultivated with the following crops for long time. Crop rotations were carrots (Daucus carota subsp. sativus L.)-wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)-vetch (Pisum sativum var. arvense) CWV, maize (Zea mays L. ssp. mays)-barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) MB and maize-vetch MV. The samples were taken after harvest of the second year, and were measured: potential and active acidity, content of humus, exchangeable calcium, total nitrogen, exchangeable potassium (K2O) and exchangeable phosphorus (P2O5). The soils from location Jasen were under the influence of saline water since the values of soil total salinity and salinity caused by sea salts were higher than that on other two locations (P<0.001), which were similar in both salinities. The values of soil active acidity, total carbonate and active calcium for all three locations were similar, while potential acidity in soils from Tinj was higher than that from Jasen and Jankolovica (P<0.001). The content of total soil nitrogen under CWV rotation was lower than that under MB and MV rotations (P<0.001). There is tendency of higher content of soil exchangeable potassium under CWV rotation than under CC and VM (P=0.055), and similar was recorded for soil exchangeable phosphorus (P=0.057). The results showed that under long-term cultivation rotation of forage crops maize-barley and maizevetch positively affected soil nitrogen content and negatively affected the potassium and phosphorus contents compared to rotation with vegetables.
