Sažetak
Fracture tests and finite element analyses including large deformation and nonlinear material behaviour were carried out on centrally notched plate specimens in order to study fracture behaviour and to determine fracture toughness of the AlMg1.5 alloy. The elastic-plastic fracture mechanics (EPFM) concept was employed in the numerical analysis since large scale yielding occurred in ligaments, as it was observed in the experiment. Isoparametric eight node plane elements were used in finite element modelling. Material plasticity behaviour was taken into account by applying a multilinear isotropic hardening model, based on von Mises yield criterion coupled with an isotropic hardening assumption. Strains in the crack tip vicinity and in ligaments determined by finite element simulations were compared with experimentally obtained results and a fairly good agreement was observed. The J-integral values and crack tip opening displacements, δt, were inferred from finite element simulation results by using postprocessor routines. The ratio δt/(J/σ0) was examined and obtained values range mainly from 0.9 -1. The critical J-integral and CTOD values associated with the crack propagation onset were determined by combining numerical results of the J-integral and CTOD values with experimentally obtained CTOD values.
