Sažetak
Chironomid assemblages of karstic lakes along the eastern Adriatic coast and vvestern Dinaric Mountains were studied. The investigated lakes are situated at altitudes betvveen 0, 1 and 770 m a.s.l. and can be divided in several groups according to their morphologv (deep, shallovv, bar rage and reservoirs), production (oligotrophic, mesotophic and eutrophic), and salinitv of vvater: freshvvater and brackish. The effect of selected environmental factors on the composition and structure of chironomid communities vvere investigated using multivariate methods. Benthic macroinvertebrates were sampled from soft bottom substrates with Eckman grab and in stratified lakes two depth zone vvere investigated ; sublitoral and profundal. Oligochaetes and chironomids constituted the bulk of the total macrozoobenthos in most of the investigated lakes. The most frequent chironomid taxa recorded in ali of the lakes belonged to Tanvpodinae and Chironomini. Chironomid assemblages of Lakes Prošće and Kozjak (Plitvice Lakes) are characterized by high altitude taxa, vvhile halophilous taxa are present in two costal brackish lakes.
