Sažetak
Soil erosion is a growing problem in South East Europe and constitutes a threat to soil quality and to the ability of soils to provide environmental services. The on-site and off-site impacts of runoff and eroded soil: sedimentation, loss of reservoir capacity, muddy flooding of roads and settlements, are increasingly recognised and costly. The objective of this research was to assess soil erosion risk for the Ljesnica river basin of Polimlje region in Montenegro. The intensity of soil erosion and runoff for the studied river basin were calculated using the IntErO model, with the Erosion Potential Method embedded in the algorithm of this computer-graphic method. Many factors have influenced the development of erosion processes in the territory of the subject river basin of Ljesnica. The most significant factors are the areas climate, relief, geological substrate and pedological composition, as well as the land use. The research foresees that the maximal runoff from the river basin. Qmax is 322 m3/s (inidence for the next 100 years). The river basin belongs in "Destruction category V", according to the classification system of Gavrilović (1972). The strength of the erosion process is very weak, and it is a region of mixed erosion. The real soil losses are 32063 m3/year(154 m3/km2/year). Assessing the risk of erosion and the management of global agricultural systems are not simple issues. It was concluded that the IntErO model may be one of a useful tools for research in calculation of runoff and sediment yield, as well as in establishing the soil erosion management plans for the region of South East Europe.
