Sažetak
The oil industry is one of the most complex industries. In addition to the complexity of technologies that are developing day after day, even more important factor is the external environment surrounding the oil industry. There are many factors in the value chain, ranging from suppliers, refineries, logistics and sales. In order to maximize the benefits while minimizing the risks, the management of oil companies must find the optimal way to manage their business activities in the transport and processing of oil. In order to efficiently and effectively manage the refinery business, management uses complex software based on linear programming as an extra tool in decision making. Oil refining is a capital intensive industry and investing in plant modernization can significantly improve business results. Case study analyzes the operation of various types of refineries. At first case, there is no investment, so management of the refineries can optimize their score mainly through modification of capacity depending on external market conditions. Second case predicts modernization of refineries. Profitability calculation shows improved results after modernization. With high investment costs and the fact that the closure of the refinery is not an option, the modernization shows as a cost-effective decision.
