Sažetak
Aim: Many studies have shown effect of omega-3 fatty acid pills on microcirculation, but there are no or quite few studies showing effect of everyday food enriched with omega-3 fatty acids on microvascular reactivity. This study aimed to determine the gender difference in microvascular reactivity after omega-3 enriched food consumption. Methods: Young healthy men (MG, N=8) and women (WG, N=4) were recruited and included in protocol of consuming, 3 omega- 3 enriched chicken eggs per day over 3 weeks.Eggs were produced by changing the diet of laying hens. Data collection was performed on the first and last day of the protocol.Blood samples for lipide profile were collected.Microvascular reactivity was assessed by laser Doppler flowmetry and systolic blood pressure (SBP) was measured by manual sphygmomanometer. Results: The omega-3 enriched food consumption caused statistically significant decrease of SBP in both WG and MG, more prominent in WG (ΔSPB in WG -11±2 vs. ΔSBP in MG 6±3 ; P<0.001).Triglyceride levels significantly decreased more in WG compared to MG (ΔTG in WG - 0.185±0.084 vs. ΔTG 0.199±0.191 in MG ; P=0.007).Microvascular reactivity significantly more increased in WG than in MG (ΔR-O in WG 0.503±0.281 vs ΔR-O in MG 0.092±0.207 ; P=0.033). Conclusions: Present study suggest that beneficial effect of omega-3 enriched food on microvascular reactivity, blood pressure and lipid profile is more prominent in female than in male population.
