Sažetak
Salinity stress is a constraint to productivity of agricultural crops worldwide. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of salt stress on blackberry plants (Rubus fructicosus L. var. čačanska Bestrna). Plants were subjected to 15 and 35 mM NaCl for 29 days under in vitro conditions and the physiological response was measured. Salt stress (35 mM NaCl) caused significant increase in protein content as well as a remarkable induction of guaiacol peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activities indicating that blackberry had an effective antioxidative defence mechanism. Malondialdehyde (MDA) content did not change significantly after NaCl exposure indicating that scavenging of ROS by antioxidative enzymes provided salinity resistance. Furthermore, proline is not a specific indicator of salt stress response in blackberry.
