Sažetak
The European Commission, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank in order to recover from the crisis that hit the Union in 2008 (debt crisis, banking crisis and crisis of economic growth), insisted on the application of the rigid fiscal policy and strict budget responsibility, ie. the austerity policy. These measures are directed to cut all government spending in order to return the confidence of investors. After reducing the deficit by cutting public spending and raising taxes, entrepreneurs will gain confidence in teh stability of the economic policy of the governments and soon start with stronger business activities. After several years of implementation of austerity measures today almost all indicators show that the economic crisis still exist only on the European continent. Namely, wrong perception of the causes of the crisis in high deficits and external debts led to a strict application of inadequate economic policies. Deficits and debts did not result from the poor economic and social situation but the wrong economic policy has produced large deficits and debts. The wrong economic policy has led the Union into recession with double bottoms and thus also created political, social, family, health and many other problems in the countries that cure the crisis with austerity measures. For example, in Greece today a quarter of the working population is unemployed, among young people under 35 years unemployed is almost half, and nearly 40 percent of the population is not covered by the health care. In this paper we examine changes in the public health care systems in the Union countries in which the austerity measures were applied, as well as consequential changes to health indicators notable in the prevalence of certain diseases. The aim is to determine whether the «mechanical» cutting the deficits in this countries lead to the fall of health standards and to what extent.
