Sažetak
Small Neogene basins within the Dinarides were never flooded by marine transgressions during their evolution. Fresh-water sedimentation, endemic fauna and their position between the Adriatic region and the Pannonian Basin System is the reason that these basin have not previously been considered asparts of the Mediterranean or Central Paratethys bioprovince. The correlation indicated by the sediments and fauna of the Dinaridic fresh-water basins with the Pannonian Basin System and the Adriatic region suggests that the Dinaridic fresh-water basins may have been a part of the Central Paratethys bioprovince. This new interpretation places the southwestern boundary of the Central Paratethys within the High Karst Belt of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
