Sažetak
A situational sketch of the German re- unification in the German-German border region along the old trade road Frankfurt/Main – Leipzig in November 1989 the text provides an analytical and thick description (Clifford Geertz) of a historical moment. It is based on open interview with bypassers, citizens of two adjacent towns which have been separated for decades. The confrontation of neighbors is being described, who share the same language and nationality but due to separation have cultivated images and ideas of self and other under the conditions of non-contact. Special attention is given to mental and habitual traces of life in a border region of two diverse societies and political systems. A further reflexion level is introduced by discourse analysis of the media coverage of 1989 as historical events.
