Sažetak
According to the recent statistical data, approximately 22% of women in undeveloped countries and 9% of women in developed countries smoke. Unless effective, comprehensive sustained initiatives are implemented to reduce smoking uptake among women, the prevalence of female smoking is likely to rise to 20% worldwide by the 2025. This would mean that there could be 532 million women smokers. Thus, while the epdemic of tobacco use among men s in slow decline, among women will not reach its peak untill we into the 21st century. This will have an enormous consequences for womens psychophisical health especially during pregnancy. The majority of the scientific findings find out that the past history of womens depression, general stressful events, poorer overall heath, being unmarried, problematic love relationship, unemployement and lower educational attainment are significantly associated with cigarette smoking during pregnancy. An emotional and psycological factors are extremely important in maintaining smoking as well. Many of women smokers express a desire to quit, feel guilt about non being able to do so, but on the other hand report that smoking offer important benefits to relaxation and mood control. Although the majority of pregnant women smokers are not being monitoring during this vulnerable time, some interventions that reduce stress and depression may be of great benefit to women who are continuing smoking in the pregnancy.
