Sažetak
Turbulent changes in the global business environment are forcing companies to change their business paradigm. If companies want to grow or at least survive in the market, they must find a way to fight the growing and keen competition. Most theorists and economists see innovations as a way to resist these market presures. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to examine the level of innovation acitivities in Croatian small and medium sized enterprises, explore the most significant benefits of implementing innovation and limiting factors which prevent or impair the implementation of innovative activities. The research was conducted via survey and the results were analyzed using descriptive statistical method. According to the results, Croatian SMEs have a high level of innovation and are oriented towards product and process innovation, which they mostly carry out alone within their own companies. As the most important benefits of innovation they emphasize the improvement of product quality and the increase in the range of products and services. Since innovation activities are mostly financed from company's resources, which are often insufficient, it is the lack of financing resources that are highlighted as the most important limiting factor in implementing innovation.
