Sažetak
A stretch of the coast between the Kaštela cities in the northwest and the city Ploče in the southeast is the longest zone of the flysch deposits outcropping along the Croatian coast. Due to the mixed lithology, flysch deposits are unevenly weathered, resulting in selective erosion. In order to gain insight into beach sediment formation three representative natural beaches from this zone were selected to be investigated. Preliminary results have shown that along the Kaštela-Ploče flysch zone mostly gravel beaches have been developed, regardless the composition of the surrounding flysch and associated deposits. The only exception is the sandy beach system in Duće area, where the sand is supplied by the Cetina River.
