Sažetak
Communication, as the process of transferring messages from a sender to the recipient, is one of the basic functions of management. Communication competence, as the ability to communicate in a personally effective and socially appropriate manner, is the necessary prerequisite for successful communication in sport tourism management. The area of communication in sport tourism management will be addressed. This paper will try to describe the main characteristics and principles of communication styles in sport tourism management. The analysis will focus on the following communication areas: a. communication of the sport tourism management of an organisational unit within an enterprise with other organisation units, b. communication between business organisations (rendering sport tourism services) integrated through the tourism destination management, c. communication between the three management levels (operational, middle and top management) within an enterprise, and d. communication with tourists. All communication areas are significant in that each area represents a system that operates within a broader system of destination management, and contributes to its overall efficiency. However, each area of communication has its own characteristics and the knowledge of these characteristics will ultimately help establish an efficient communication pattern. The specific characteristics of sport tourism are reflected in the functionally connected communication between elements of the tourism destination product. The deficiency of any element will affect the overall quality of sport tourism. How communication in various segments of sport tourism management interweaves thus harmonising their diversities to form a coherent structure and ultimately how this affects performance quality will be explicated.
