Sažetak
This volume arrives at a moment when we urgently need ways to de-sex the border, by unmasking the multiple power technology regimes that stand beneath, which perpetuates and still keeps the West – (former) East European divide, and to re- politicize sex/gender issues as the core subjects of performative art and new media today. This collection of papers, accompanied by a stimulating theoretical introduction by Katarzyna Kosmala, confronts us with the rich and incisive exploration of distinctive artistic and curatorial practices that have emerged in post-Socialist European contexts and forces us to draw more specific attention to the profound possibility that a perspective from within this viewpoint offers. Rather than being trapped in spectacularization of the “former” East as the effect of the dominant gaze, the essays deliberately show in which possible ways the border offers a wide spectrum for critical interpretation of cultural identity construction, gender performance and institutions of contemporary art’s positioning in the diverse ‘transitional’ countries as responses to Eurocentric discourse, racialization and libidinally-oriented, global neoliberal capitalism. Where are the potentials for transgressive acting, and how to establish responsibility of feminist artistic (or, “politically queer”, according to Gržinić) agency implies a radical shift in voice and arguments that addresses Europe per se including its colonial contingency, homophobia, increasing modes of subjugations, and a new type of struggle.”
