Sažetak
In order to develop sustainable tourism destinations, recent studies have highlighted the importance of considering supply chain management (SCM) approaches within tourism systems – from providers of tourism infrastructure and services, over tourism intermediaries to travelers. Since the tourism industry has significantly evolved and modernized during the last two decades, while the business environment has become highly competitive, the application of SCM strategies is considered helpful in achieving higher competitiveness-levels of both tourism firms and respective tourism systems as a whole. At the same time, the growing concern of tourists about environmental issues puts further pressure on tourism firms and destination management organizations to consider the adoption of sustainable SCM strategies. The application of SCM strategies within the tourism domain has, however, yet received little attention by researchers Thus, in order to provide guidance for future research related to tourism supply chains, the present paper aims at reviewing existing research and synthesizing main approaches and findings. In particular, this review seeks to screen existing studies with regard to their a) level of analysis, b) research focus, c) type of study/paper, d) the sample used, e) analyzed relationships, and f) the different types of tourism subjects which are covered and linked into supply chains.
