Sažetak
The phenomenon of globalization has influenced all spheres of human life. Its positive effects, such as the ability to bring people together and to communicate, can be understood without depending on time and space. On the other hand prevails hybridity, multiculturalism, social pluralism, inequality, economic and social diversity, a mix of identities, cultural changes related to the demands of modernism, postmodernism, and media society since globalization tends to delete differences and create a global culture. It threatens everything that is local, traditional, indigenous and one` s own, creating difficulties in understanding and forming the identity, especially the identity of the younger generation. Thereby, cultural identity functions as a sense of belonging to a cultural community that shares the same values, customs, history, language, nationality, race, religious beliefs and other relevant community features. Cultural identity as such loses its authority when forming the personal identity of a young individual. The most sensitive agents in the process of identity formation remain adolescents who are imbued with the experience of their own reality, going through the most sensitive phase of growing up and forming their identity. In this process they find themselves and their place in the society. In the context of the globalization processes, adolescents are faced with positive and negative effects that influence the destabilization of their identity. The influence of the new media (new information-communication technology, social mass media, and digital communication through text messages, sound, picture and video) makes the identity confusion of adolescents even deeper, offering the possibility of global communication that exchanges knowledge, values and lifestyles. This brings it to the level of global culture mediated by the contemporary media.
