Sažetak
The main drawback in the long-term application of NSAIDs to patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are numerous gastrointestinal (Cl) side-effects. Becaus~ of the nature of their discomfort, the patients with RA are forced to take one of the NSAIDs, thus being constsntly exposed to Cl side- effects.ln order to scientifically approach the practice observed, differences in bearing of certain NSAIDs in patients with RA, a comparative research has been applied to administering either granular tenoxicam ar other NSAIDs tablets. The resarch was carried out on two group s of patients with HA : A. The first group consisted of 71 patients (59 women, 12 ~ men) of an average illness duration of 9.1 years. Their average age was 53.05 years, in the range of 28 to 68 years. The test group was administered the granular tenoxicam (20 mg daily) for the average period of 3.9 months. The GI side- effects were manifested in only 6 patients (8.5%), 5 women and 1 man. Four patients experienced stomach queasiness, while two of them felt pain in the epigastrium. The side-effects were equally distributed in both sexes, more often in older patients. B. The second group comprised 72 patients (60 women, 12 men) of the average illness duration of 8.2 years. Their average age was 45.4, in the range of 34 to 69 years. This group was administered peroral taking of various NSAIDs in an optimal daily dose (piroxicam, diclofenac, indomethacin ...) for an average period of 4.1 months. The GI side-effects in this group were manifested in 33 patients (43%), 28 women and 5 men, equally in both sexes, more frequently in older patients. The side- effects were most often manifested in patients taking piroxicam, somewhat less frequently in those taking diclofenac and tiaprofenic acid. The most frequent side-effects were stomach queasiness (43%), pain in the epigastrium (22%) and nausea (14%), while one patient . experienced melena. Conclusion: As regards patients with RA, granular tenoxicam showed both a good clinical effectiveness and good bearing in long-term medicine taking, rarely causing GI side-effects, compar- eđ W many other NSAIDs in peroral taking. 023
