Sažetak
The initial step in the establishment of the Croatian Society for Laboratory Animal Science was taken in 1980. The inaugural meeting was held on May 14, 1981, at the Ruđer Bošković Institute. During twenty years the Society has gathered scientists and other professionals from Croatia and surrounding countries to facilitate exchange of experience and knowledge about Laboratory Animal Science. today the Society has over hundred members. In 1981, 1986, 1993, 1996 and 1998 the Society published the Directory of breeding centers in Croatia and list of standardized animals. Since 1992. the official paper entitled: "News of the Society for Laboratory Animal Science" has been published biannually. Two meeting were organized; In 1984. The First Symphosium of Laboratory Animals, at the School of medicine, University of Zagreb and in 1994. Experimental Animals in Scientific Studies, The First Croatian Symphosium with International Participation, at Ruđer Bošković Institute, Zagreb. At the Society's assembly in 1993, the Ethical Code abided by all Society members was adopted. The Society was included in the discussion about the Croatian Act of Animal Welfare which Croatian National Parliament adopted in 1999. Since 1999, the Society has been a member of the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science.
