Sažetak
At the beginning of 1995 the nest-boxes (Bright and Morris type, 1989) have been placed in a mixed forest (Abieti - Fagetum) in the karst area of Tri Kalići (1100-1145 m above sea level) in the Croatian Gorski Kotar highlands, near the forest ranger's cottage in Lividraga. A relatively high number of dormice (Myoxus glis) on one plot (sized 1, 1 ha) has been registered. The beech (Fagus sylvatica) was in full bloom on the plot and a maximum of the seed production was registered that year. From a total of 49 nest-boxes, 80% has been occupied in the autumn of the same year (1995), with a peak in October (80, 7 specimens per ha in the nest-boxes) – what is considerably more than registered by Storch (1978) (i. e. 30 specimens per ha) in oak-forests of the former northern Yugoslavia. A tattoo method (tattoo-pliers EBECO) has been used for marking dormice. In the nest-boxes during summer and autumn cca 40 adult specimens per ha have been found. Only 50% of the previously marked adults have been found in October. Females had only one litter that year (births occurred at the end of July and in the first half of August. Communal nesting was frequent, and even twice communal nursing was registered - two breeding females with 8 i. e. 10 juveniles in one nestbox. The average weight registered in 47 juveniles at the beginning of October was 72 g (48-115 g) and the average weight of adults was 200 g (140-310 g). The total dormice biomass was 11 kg/ha at least. The average gain in bodyweight of marked specimens by growth during the summer was about 25 g/month. The specimens with a bodyweight up to 326 g have been registered by Frković (1996) during the hunting season at the end of October 1995. The forestry manager Malnar J. caught in Javornica region in 1994 a male specimen weighing 380 g.
