Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to draw attention to the importance of correct diagnosis and assessing the ability of people with Alzheimer’s disease in order to protect them during court proceedings in which they could be involved either on their own will, or through manipulation by their families or environment, or even posthumously. Responsibility of primary care physicians and psychiatrists is to protect the patients by doing a more precise assessment of the patient’s abilities as well as to warn them of possible legal consequences of their disease while the obligation of the expert witnesses is to answer the questions of the court morally, correctly and according to the rules of forensic profession. The paper will show the civil laws in Croatia under which people with Alzheimer disease are most often questioned, as well as the available clinical instruments that are essential to the objectification of diagnosis and assessment of functional and cognitive abilities of people with Alzheimer’s disease.
