Sažetak
Heterocyclic molecules are able to change its photophysical properties when selective recognition of an anionic/cationic substrate occurs. A great variety of heterocyclic molecules have been employed for the development of optical sensors where the benzimidazole unit is one of the most important key building block. Recent progress in optical sensor technology and great importance of chemosensors that are capable of assaying cations or anions in solution is a main reason for synthesis and photophysical characterization of such novel compounds.
