Sažetak
The world becomes growingly aware of all the complexity of energy supply. Until recently it seemed that the processes such as deregulation, market opening and competition will make energy sources more alike to any other commodity. However, in the new millennium we have faced several challenges. The problems with oil are the most conspicuous, because it has a large share in total energy consumption and in certain areas of consumption, as in traffic, oil can hardly be replaced with another energy source. There are many explanations about causes of disruptions in oil supply: crises, wars or riots in oil producing countries, hurricanes and other natural catastrophes, but the problem is that we have limited spare capacity to mitigate supply shortages. With a border on the Mediterranean and four further borders Croatia is ideally located at the heart of Central and Eastern Europe with advantageous access to the Mediterranean and as such it has potentials to become an energy hub in SEE. Growing interest for LNG supply intensify discussions on the construction of LNG acceptance terminal in the Adriatic in order to meet increased regional demand. Such a project entails many advantages. The terminal, including offtake pipeline, should ensure supply of gas to other European countries and the Croatian market. It would contribute to security of supply. In addition, it is a large capital investment, a grass root investment that would create new jobs, including those with high level of technological expertise.
