Sažetak
The article discusses the film industry mainly after Croatia's recent independence, especially populist film. Although strong preferences for the genre film, stimulated by American sources of inspiration, continue to exist within this new national industry, the most successful films from 1990 to 2013 establish a specific local tendency based on literary adaptations. Placing his debate both within former Yugoslav and present Croatian cinemas, author demonstrates that besides comedies and children films there are few other popular Croatian films, although attempts were made with war films, melodramas, and some other genres.
