Sažetak
This paper gives an overview of the history of the use of sails and modern achievements in the field of driving a boat with rigid sails. It is presumed to have met the technical and technological conditions for wider application of rigid sails. Therefore, this article is a contribution to the selection and consideration of the influencing parameters to the application and performance of rigid sails or wings for marine propulsion. It was found that the effectiveness of wing and its practical application are in contradiction. In this article, the term efficiency is improved transfer of energy from the wind to drive the boat, while usability means managing the operation and removal of the wings when needed. Our aim was to point out the parameters that influence the wing to drive ships more efficient and practical at the same time. The result is to recognize and highlight these parameters, and to provide guidelines for the future development of the wings for marine propulsion as well as a basis for future research.
